Limerick Fiddle Workshop

About Limerick Fiddle Workshop

Limerick Fiddle Workshop is a music teaching organisation with a difference! A new business partnership between Joanne Ward and Harry Minogue, Limerick Fiddle Workshops aims to foster a community of people with an interest in traditional music.

Students are regularly exposed to a variety of musical styles and master exponents on their instrument during workshops. Parents are more than welcome to stay during the lessons or classes, we believe this helps parents to understand what their child is learning and help support them more effectively in their study. Inspired by her own varied experiences in learning music Joanne Ward set up The Ward School of Traditional Fiddle and Violin in 2008, expanding this into Limerick Fiddle Workshop in 2009.

Harry provides lessons in fundamental techniques in acoustic guitar and classical guitar which allows the students to work on the styles of music in which they are interested from acoustic rock, to classical to blues. We also provide tuition in violin (classical) tin whistle, wooden and silver flute and saxophone.

What are they up to?

A Good Old-Fashioned Hooley

There will be a range of traditional style entertainment from storytelling, set dancing, music and songs from professional artists to members of the public. Everyone is encouraged to get invlolved and we'll have a good bit of organised chaos to benefit Limerick. The results will be put on film and used to showcase what Limerick has to offer.
Its never too late to get involved - simply turn up! All welcome.

Saturday 8pm > A 1940's Style Good Old-Fashioned Hooley (including Fancy Dress Prizes) > Flannery's Bar

Music Workshops:

Joanne from Limerick Fiddle Workshop will attempt to give an overview of how any musician can begin learning traditional irish music. With tips and tricks on how to memorise, pick up by ear and give a very broad overview of style. If there's time after all that we'll learn a cute little polka you can make your own and amaze friends with.
Something for players of all ages - musicians who are accomplished in another genre will find this informative and younger players / at an intermediate level will find it accessible enough. As a rule of thumb if you have your own instrument that you can bring AND you can play to an intermediate level you should be fine. If you are only a beginner, you are welcome to sit and listen if there are spaces, whats the worst that can happen?
Sheet music and handouts will be given at the end of the class..

Sunday 1.30pm > Trad Masterclass Workshop > French's Café

IF you are new to sessions this is your chance to get it at the ground level and get an appreciation - again whats the worst that can happen. If you are hot stuff, come about 30mins into it to amaze everyone with you talents. All welcome.
